Lilac Edit

It is much easier to work out how to wear lilac once you start thinking of it as pink for grown-ups.

Lilac works best when there is a lot of it, and it is not too fussy. A lilac outfit, with clean lines and simple accessories, will look a great deal less old lady-ish and is straightforward way of making a wallflower colour more assertive.

Check it out!

Hats at LFW15

Here is another snapshot of what I saw at LFW15. I can’t forget about the gorgeous hats, fascinators and headpieces!

Keely Hunter Millinery showcased her AW/15 Fourth World collection which explores the futurist designs of science-fiction created through a mix of textures and concave shapes aimed to conjure up a sense of portals and unimagined worlds.

IMG_4673
a
Keely was trained in London and worked under various couture designers before establishing her own label. She appeared in numerous  fashion publications – including Vogue Germany, Vogue UK, Vogue Italia, Grazia and Wallpaper and was named by Selfridges to be a Bright Young Thing – the first milliner ever chosen for the store’s ‘next big thing’ designer showcase. Here are some of my favourite designs.
a
For everyday use, I loved the Perspex Peak Hat and Charcoal Mohair Tall Crown.

a

IMG_4686

For a more avant-garde look, the Block Headpiece, Mirror Saucer and Hexagon Percher definitely stood out!

IMG_4692

IMG_4694

IMG_4693

I am a huge fan of winter warm woolie hats so I fell in love with these Un-spun snood and Casmere Perspex Beanie!

IMG_4679

IMG_4681

The black faux fur neoprene trapper was so cool too!

IMG_4696

AWON GOLDING MILLINERY was another brand that caught my eye!

IMG_4701

Awon Golding is a London based milliner drawing on her multicultural heritage (she spent a lot of time in India. Hong Kong and England) to inspire dynamic headpieces.
Creating dramatic silhouettes, with each piece handcrafted in her London studio, her creative talent was recognised by The Honourable Feltmaker’s Guild, when Awon was awarded first prize in its annual millinery competition in 2010. Currently her pieces are being sold in London’s Liberty!

IMG_4700

At London Fashion Week, Awon Golding showcased her AW/15 Floral Decay collection full of crispy autumn hues, from rich pinks and purples to the earthy tones of warm mustard, moss and gold.
“Faux fur and rich felts mingle with buttery soft leather and mirror-polished brass to create a luxe-accented collection. Transitional turbans, headbands and berets provide glamour, whilst cosy cossacks, full-brimmed fedoras and earmuffs balance function with style.”

My absolute favourites are felt hats so I immediately fell in love with this Calyx soft two-tone mustard and magenda fedora velour felt hat set off by a mirror-polished trim band.

IMG_4706

IMG_4703

How stylish is this eye catching diagonal Heath multi-fur cossack headband made from hot pink, natural fox and purple faux fur!

IMG_4711

I really liked this Polen statement beret disc that adds glamour to any outfit. Mustard velour felt base and bow with purple faux fur pom pom and gold crystal accents will make you stand out from the crowd!

IMG_4708

IMG_4710

Finally, Zoe Sherwood! I loved her signature sculptural pieces inspired by nature.
Central St Martin’s offsping – Zoe is a London based head piece and ornament designer who, before graduating worked with the likes of Diane von Funstenberg and her hair ornaments are currently selling at Liberty’s under their “Best of British Talent”.

IMG_4757

I am wearing this super cute High Love Band – glamorous and decadent…

IMG_4760

IMG_4771

IMG_4766

How funky is this High Crown Band made of sinamay and millinery wire, hand sculpted into the shape to comfortably fit on the head!

MAWI – LFW15

So here comes my last London Fashion Week post! I have written a lot about jewellery at LFW Designer Showrooms however, I wanted to pay special attention to MAWI – one of my go-to statement jewellery brands.

IMG_3298a
Mawi Keivom and Tim Awan founded their brand 2002 at London Fashion Week. Designer Keivom customized one of her necklaces with jewels and vintage touches –
inspiring an entire collection of similar products. Since its launch, the costume jewellery and accessories brand has collaborated with Disney Couture, Swarovski and Selfridges  maintaining the nostalgic yet contemporary style they have come to be known for.

MAWI speaks about their pieces as ‘ornamental meeting places for the past, present and future’. Each piece is both contemporary and vintage-inspired which means these vibrant accessories will continue to be stylish for years to come.
I have been painstakingly collecting their rings and necklaces for years now but my most treasured pieces come from Deco Noir, Metropolis and Rebel Romance collections.

If you feel it is your bling day, go with the Rebel Royal collection and show off that urban glamour. Mix things up with the Emerals Slogan Charm necklace or just add a pinch of glamour with the Rubies earrings, or a cool, in-your-face Ruby bling-tastic ring.

It was great fun trying on new designs! I particularly loved this extended flexible ring which design offers movement to the precious stones and looks just breathtaking!

Check out these unique clutch bags whose fans include Madonna and other celebrities!
How fabulous is this Burgundy DEALER clutch bag made of embossed calf-leather and Swarovski Crystals!

Set either in glossy bordeaux or jet black, showcasing fearless punk rock detail and diamante slogans – THIEF and DEALER. Handbag or clutch? They are certainly not for the faint-hearted!
a
IMG_3266

I loved these lush quilted velvet and furry clutches highlighting golden sun-ray shaped surface detail, with spikes and rock clusters bursting outwards from the core.
Pretty and colorful, these clutches will brighten up any outfit.

Jewels were layered with smaller sections making room for chunky statement tiers creating exceptionally detailed and bold pieces.
In true Mawi style the collection boast a series of individual collections, each with their own influences and aesthetics; from gold bunnies to rebellious city glamour. The playful ‘BUNNY LOVE’  collection presented a cute alternative to Mawi’s signature decadently rocking jewels.

This season Mawi introduced a new addition to their impressive collections – slinky silk and cashmere knitwear, shimmering with glitter slogans shouting ”THIEF’, ‘DEALER’ and ‘SAPPHIRES’.
These little gems are sure to be on every sartorialists wish list.

Backpacks are back! Handbags at LFW15

Handbags are a girl’s best friends! For me, they are a statement of personality and attitude, a declaration of mood, a weapon in a crowd and a home on the move.

IMG_3355

Today I wanted to share with you the up and coming handbag and leather designers I had a pleasure to meet in the designer showrooms at London Fashion Week.

British brand Hemsley London, set up by Jayne Hemsley embodies quality craftsmanship, innovative and directional design tailored to the needs of the modern wearer. She created luxe fashion-led accessories where fashion meets tech for those busy go-getter socialites.

IMG_3361

IMG_3352

The designer tapped into this idea creating an Italian-leather bag collection with the working girl’s best interests at heart. With her unique designs the backpack is back on trend! From the Mayfair to the Derby, all designs are suede-lined and come with a convenient flap pocket that allow you to use your tablet or I-phone on the go.

IMG_3350

IMG_3348

IMG_3343

And for the ultimate tote ladies, who carry just about everything around, the Hampshire bags are complete with a detachable coin purse (and mirror, and Oyster card holder) for the time when you can’t afford to scrabble through your bag like a lost traveler. How genius is that!

IMG_3346

Williams Handmade was founded by award winning Sarah Williams in 2010 and the brand epitomises truly unique, sculptural and timeless leather pieces with each of them handmade in Hertfordshire.

IMG_3390

This is an extremely labour intensive process where each piece of leather is being cut by hand and constructed individually using traditional techniques

IMG_3379

IMG_3394

For me, it is the colours and the unusual sculptural shapes and forms that differentiate Williams handmade from other designers, encouraging you to appreciate the true art of hand craftsmanship.

IMG_3400

IMG_3393

I loved this hexagonal sculptured clutch back oozing sophistication and wow factor.

IMG_3389

The Mayra Fedane London brand remains very close to the concept of nonchalance, spontaneity and elegance.

IMG_3334

I loved her structured yet whimsical handbags bursting with colour palettes and edginess where hand weaves and embroideries stand out loud in the high quality leather.

Philippine heritage brand ZACARIAS bags are hand woven exclusively by S.C Vizacarra, a company set up in 1925 by Crative Ditrector Rita Nazareno’s grandmother Segundida Cornejo Vizacarra.

Referencing strongly contemporary art, architecture and design, ZACARIAS is a combination of progressive design and the art of hand-weaving.

Bootylicious…

IMG_4607

As the weather warms up lifting our spirits and shaking off winter blues, this is probably my last wintery outfit this season. As much as I love shearling, I can’t wait to busk in the summer rays!

IMG_4845

Here is a what I wore to the final day at London Fashion Week.
I fell in love with this Duro Olowu Shearling-trimmed wool jacket when I saw it on the Outnet sale. Duro Olowu is a new designer in my wardrobe. Since 2004 when he launched his London label, Nigerian-born Duro, has been wowing with his signature kaleidoscopic and clashing prints full of energy and movement.

I just adore the gunmetal/licorice colour and heavy leather structured feel with strong pleats thought-out the front. Masterpiece!

Now, when it comes to boots – no one does it better than Alexander Wang. When NET-A-PORTER had a sale earlier in a year, I knew I had to have them!

IMG_4844

Worn on the runway at New York Fashion Week, Alexander Wang’s ‘Lovanni’ two tone over the knee boots are one of a kind! With a contrasting slick black and chocolate brown leather, zipped at the back, giving off the classic equestrian feel and comfortable stack wooded white heel that adds an off-beat, contemporary edge making it so easy to walk the city streets, why not make blustery mornings a total pleasure!
