MAWI – LFW15

So here comes my last London Fashion Week post! I have written a lot about jewellery at LFW Designer Showrooms however, I wanted to pay special attention to MAWI – one of my go-to statement jewellery brands.

IMG_3298a
Mawi Keivom and Tim Awan founded their brand 2002 at London Fashion Week. Designer Keivom customized one of her necklaces with jewels and vintage touches –
inspiring an entire collection of similar products. Since its launch, the costume jewellery and accessories brand has collaborated with Disney Couture, Swarovski and Selfridges  maintaining the nostalgic yet contemporary style they have come to be known for.

MAWI speaks about their pieces as ‘ornamental meeting places for the past, present and future’. Each piece is both contemporary and vintage-inspired which means these vibrant accessories will continue to be stylish for years to come.
I have been painstakingly collecting their rings and necklaces for years now but my most treasured pieces come from Deco Noir, Metropolis and Rebel Romance collections.

If you feel it is your bling day, go with the Rebel Royal collection and show off that urban glamour. Mix things up with the Emerals Slogan Charm necklace or just add a pinch of glamour with the Rubies earrings, or a cool, in-your-face Ruby bling-tastic ring.

Rings were particularly enticing with their gorgeous gem clusters.
It was great fun trying on new designs! I particularly loved this extended flexible ring which design offers movement to the precious stones and looks just breathtaking!

Check out these unique clutch bags whose fans include Madonna and other celebrities!
How fabulous is this Burgundy DEALER clutch bag made of embossed calf-leather and Swarovski Crystals!

Set either in glossy bordeaux or jet black, showcasing fearless punk rock detail and diamante slogans – THIEF and DEALER. Handbag or clutch? They are certainly not for the faint-hearted!

I loved these lush quilted velvet and furry clutches highlighting golden sun-ray shaped surface detail, with spikes and rock clusters bursting outwards from the core.
Pretty and colorful, these clutches will brighten up any outfit.

Jewels were layered with smaller sections making room for chunky statement tiers creating exceptionally detailed and bold pieces.
In true Mawi style the collection boast a series of individual collections, each with their own influences and aesthetics; from gold bunnies to rebellious city glamour. The playful ‘BUNNY LOVE’  collection presented a cute alternative to Mawi’s signature decadently rocking jewels.

This season Mawi introduced a new addition to their impressive collections – slinky silk and cashmere knitwear, shimmering with glitter slogans shouting ”THIEF’, ‘DEALER’ and ‘SAPPHIRES’.
These little gems are sure to be on every sartorialists wish list.

Backpacks are back! Handbags at LFW15

Handbags are a girl’s best friends! For me, they are a statement of personality and attitude, a declaration of mood, a weapon in a crowd and a home on the move.

IMG_3355

Today I wanted to share with you the up and coming handbag and leather designers I had a pleasure to meet in the designer showrooms at London Fashion Week.

British brand Hemsley London, set up by Jayne Hemsley embodies quality craftsmanship, innovative and directional design tailored to the needs of the modern wearer. She created luxe fashion-led accessories where fashion meets tech for those busy go-getter socialites.

IMG_3361

IMG_3352

The designer tapped into this idea creating an Italian-leather bag collection with the working girl’s best interests at heart. With her unique designs the backpack is back on trend! From the Mayfair to the Derby, all designs are suede-lined and come with a convenient flap pocket that allow you to use your tablet or I-phone on the go.

And for the ultimate tote ladies, who carry just about everything around, the Hampshire bags are complete with a detachable coin purse (and mirror, and Oyster card holder) for the time when you can’t afford to scrabble through your bag like a lost traveler. How genius is that!

IMG_3346

Williams Handmade was founded by award winning Sarah Williams in 2010 and the brand epitomises truly unique, sculptural and timeless leather pieces with each of them handmade in Hertfordshire.

IMG_3390

This is an extremely labour intensive process where each piece of leather is being cut by hand and constructed individually using traditional techniques

IMG_3379

IMG_3394

For me, it is the colours and the unusual sculptural shapes and forms that differentiate Williams handmade from other designers, encouraging you to appreciate the true art of hand craftsmanship.

IMG_3400

IMG_3393

I loved this hexagonal sculptured clutch back oozing sophistication and wow factor.

IMG_3389

The Mayra Fedane London brand remains very close to the concept of nonchalance, spontaneity and elegance.

IMG_3334

I loved her structured yet whimsical handbags bursting with colour palettes and edginess where hand weaves and embroideries stand out loud in the high quality leather.

Mayra is a truly talented designers whose lego-enspired techno-pop handbags are an immediate draw!

Fleet Ilya is a truly exciting leather label set up with the objective of bridging a high fashion aesthetics and subversive fantasy. I absolutely adored the lilac leather high waist belts and structured backpack that is making a comeback in so many forms and shapes!

Founded by Jasmine, the J D’Cruz brand  is a new and exciting British brand, delivering  bespoke handmade leather pieces using hand printing and vibrancy of colours as a main tool.

Philippine heritage brand ZACARIAS bags are hand woven exclusively by S.C Vizacarra, a company set up in 1925 by Crative Ditrector Rita Nazareno’s grandmother Segundida Cornejo Vizacarra.

1

Referencing strongly contemporary art, architecture and design, ZACARIAS is a combination of progressive design and the art of hand-weaving.

This stunning Mary Katrantzou Silk Blend Animal Print Jacquard dress I picked up on TheCorner sale is one of my favorite pieces to date. Inspired by the signature fifties New Look silhouette and styled in deep shades of jewel-toned jacquard, Mary Katrantzou‘s A-line dress is certainly a feminine choice for dress-up. Covered in abstract animal patterning, this shimmering piece lends evening looks a touch of whimsical.
I love the ink/black silk blend with bordeaux and silver-hued jacquard pattern.

To add a notch of modern classics I matched it with Acne Studios Mape Shearling-trimmed leather biker jacket from Net-a-Porter.

IMG_3454

Designed with a detachable, plush stone lamb aviator-inspired shearling collar, rough downtown-luxe hardware and a chunky buckled belt, is one of the most coveted wardrobe staples among It girls. I love slightly boxy cut and the asymmetric zip.

I was aiming at that extra edge so slipped into these gorgeous Alexander Wang Lys polished leather ankle boots, also from Net-a-Porter.
Not only does Wang create most coveted accessories each season, but this time he also incorporates the runaway’s utilitarian feel injecting a dose of futuristic style into otherwise, daily-wear pieces.
These super cool Lys boots are crafted from polished-leather with an exaggerated, shield-like front panel. Finished with a well-balanced ostrich-effect heel, this backless,  gorgeous pair look best with shorter hemlines.

I accessorised with the cute cream socks to offset the black sheen of the ankle boots, Jaeger black ponyskin gloves and Fendi sunglasses.

IMG_3533

Of course, I cannot forget to mention the fabulous Mary Katrantzou glossed MVK medium cross body bag!

The design behind this bag is truly genius, it is different to anything else I have seen. I love the way the flap comes over the bag like a lid closing the box off.
The structured shape makes it ideal for on-duty dressing, so you can style it with silk blouses or statement dresses.
This timeless bag is a true homage to understated luxury, featuring panels of super clean colour-block leather and a sleek magnetic gold-tone clasp. Geometric masterpiece in my favourite hues of navy and burgundy.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

Winter Farewell

I am casting my mind back to my 2nd day at London Fashion Week… It seems like a long time ago now with both Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks well over, to me, however, it still resonates with a certain degree of euphoria and inspiration weeks on.

I will be sharing with you all the exciting brands I had met at Somerset House Designer Showrooms in the forthcoming posts. Today, though, it is a quick peek into my outfit on London Fashion Week Day 2 that Yahoo Lifestyle voted one of 14 best street styles on the day at Somerset House! How cool is that!

As you all know, I love shearling coats so when the weather still had London in its wintry grasp, I could not resist but to go for this gorgeous Rick Owens Shearling-collared leather jacket I picked up on theOutnet last year.

I love the neutral, blush coloured leather and show-stopping oversized shearling shawl collar that will get you noticed from the crowd.

Rick Owens take a feminine approach to the classic biker jacket and offers up this flesh leather cropped version.

IMG_2969

I played with perfect proportions by layering the jacket over Proenza Schouler Flocked moiré-jacquard mini runaway dress I got from Net-a-Porter a couple of months ago. I can’t get enough of the bold multicolored Flocked moiré-jacquard and rich velvet flocking. Nipped in waist with rounded shoulders and wide short sleeves, the dress certainly gives off a modern look This navy and teal techno-fabric dress is, in my opinion, one of the best pieces from Proenza Schouler‘s “energy, humor, and speed.” Fall’14 collection.

IMG_2904

IMG_2957

IMG_2961

I worked it with pointed suede ankle boots and a leather clutch.
Bottega Veneta Nero Suede Boots I got from MyTheresa never let me down. Every time I wear them, they do make a statement adding a dash of playful originality! I love the elegant silhouette contrasted against a whimsical flame-like cut out design to the ankle.

IMG_2923

I accessorised my look with JAEGER black ponskin gloves, Balenciaga Square-frame acetate sunglasses, also from theOutnet and Emilio Pucci two tone blue fold-over leather zipped clutch with gold-tone signature logo and a fold-over top that goes so perfectly with the hue of the dress. I picked it up on theCorner sale. I am so fond of the vibrancy of the colours and luscious fuchsia silk inside lining!

Royal Fashion Day @Middle Temple Hall – LFW 2015

London Fashion Week 2015 is officially over. What a whirlwind of events it has been! Having got myself immersed in all the designer glamour, the glitz of shows and catwalks, I feel all but a bit deflated being back in the ordinary world.

What is the best way to keep these marvelous memories going but to write about what I loved the most about this superb fashion event?

In partnership with London London – for me – LFW started with Royal Fashion Day held in the historical rooms at Middle Temple Hall nearby the fashionably famous Somerset House.

For the occasion, I went head-to-toe in Alexander Wang. I paired this gorgeous Micro-paisley jacquard dress with Alexander Wang Racketeer Sling small calf hair shoulder bag and Alexander Wang
Daga stretch-mesh ankle boots.

For the opening of London Fashion Week, Holding-London with Luxberry and Privilege Entertainment  in collaboration with the British Fashion Council gathered some of the very best emerging brands from London and Europe, never seen on the UK market and presented them to the British fashion industry. Four  up-and-coming designers, Black Rose Collection, Elena Rul, Innu, and Reka Orosz, presented their new collection and here is a run-down of my favourite pieces.
