Winter Farewell

I am casting my mind back to my 2nd day at London Fashion Week… It seems like a long time ago now with both Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks well over, to me, however, it still resonates with a certain degree of euphoria and inspiration weeks on.

I will be sharing with you all the exciting brands I had met at Somerset House Designer Showrooms in the forthcoming posts. Today, though, it is a quick peek into my outfit on London Fashion Week Day 2 that Yahoo Lifestyle voted one of 14 best street styles on the day at Somerset House! How cool is that!

As you all know, I love shearling coats so when the weather still had London in its wintry grasp, I could not resist but to go for this gorgeous Rick Owens Shearling-collared leather jacket I picked up on theOutnet last year.

I love the neutral, blush coloured leather and show-stopping oversized shearling shawl collar that will get you noticed from the crowd.

Rick Owens take a feminine approach to the classic biker jacket and offers up this flesh leather cropped version.

I played with perfect proportions by layering the jacket over Proenza Schouler Flocked moiré-jacquard mini runaway dress I got from Net-a-Porter a couple of months ago. I can’t get enough of the bold multicolored Flocked moiré-jacquard and rich velvet flocking. Nipped in waist with rounded shoulders and wide short sleeves, the dress certainly gives off a modern look This navy and teal techno-fabric dress is, in my opinion, one of the best pieces from Proenza Schouler‘s “energy, humor, and speed.” Fall’14 collection.

I worked it with pointed suede ankle boots and a leather clutch.
Bottega Veneta Nero Suede Boots I got from MyTheresa never let me down. Every time I wear them, they do make a statement adding a dash of playful originality! I love the elegant silhouette contrasted against a whimsical flame-like cut out design to the ankle.

I accessorised my look with JAEGER black ponskin gloves, Balenciaga Square-frame acetate sunglasses, also from theOutnet and Emilio Pucci two tone blue fold-over leather zipped clutch with gold-tone signature logo and a fold-over top that goes so perfectly with the hue of the dress. I picked it up on theCorner sale. I am so fond of the vibrancy of the colours and luscious fuchsia silk inside lining!

The Power of Shearling

So my shearling extravaganza continues past London Fashion Week.
If you are a forward-planning person like myself,  you would have undoubtedly got yourself a shearling or two by now, I always buy out of season and purchasing at least one was a no–brainer to me.

I still can’t get enough of this gorgeous Isabel Marant Drew belted shearling jacket I picked up on Net-a-Porter sale.

IMG_1879

IMG_1839

Personally, I like oversized jackets but if you are at all on the curvy side, you need to be careful of appearing too bulky.
Isabel Marant‘s signature boho-chic ecru jacket was the killer look on the  FW14 runway.

IMG_1841

IMG_1836

IMG_1834

I love the way Marant mixes this shorter jacket up with a curly shearling body and smooth fur sleeves.
The fine detachable leather belt is a key element of the designer’s shearling look that cinches in the waist for a more fitted and flattering silhouette.

IMG_1845

IMG_1798

This ‘Sienna’ skirt perfectly captures Isabel Marant‘s bohemian spark. Crafted in an off-white cream soft knitted alpaca and wool blend with an instantly recognizable geometric print, it features a wrap front to sit slightly asymmetric that ties up both ends so you decide how fitted you want it to be.

I attempted to capture some of that stunning runway spirit but instead of furry boots I went for these sleek Bottega Veneta Nero Suede Boots I got from MyTheresa.

IMG_1831

IMG_1828

And they do make a statement adding a dash of playful originality! They caught my eye at Milan Fashion Week last season. Expertly crafted in Italy they show off an elegant silhouette contrasted against a whimsical flame-like cut out design to the ankle, adding a touch of drama. They look best with bare legs or thin tights!

IMG_1826

I accesorised with my favourite designer – Alexander Wang.
There is something mesmerising about this amazing Alexander Wang Rocketeer glossed-leather satchel I picked up on theOutnet.

IMG_1741

IMG_1766

I could not stop looking at it when I first got it, admiring the beauty of the design, superb leather quality and the complicated curved lines that very much remind me of the forgotten shape of an accordion.

IMG_1822

IMG_1858

The bag features one open central section and two tab-fastening side compartments. The satchel is undoubtedly in the list of my top 10 favourite bags to date.

I could not forget my RayBan Wayfarers!

Shearling Wonderland

This season designers have gone gaga over the shearling and fluffy coats in all forms and shapes.

To me, shearling is the autumn’s equivalent of the leather jacket so it has indeed become my winter wardrobe staple. Shearling permeates every major trend this season: oversized, folk ’70s, utilitarian, you name it. So I guess, the question is not if you are going to be wearing shearling, but how you will be wearing shearling this season. Luckily, the answer is – any way you want! If you, like me – love being warm and fashionable at the same time (and it is not always easy) you will most likely be the proud owner of at least a few of these beauties in different colours and shapes.
However, there is always the possibility that the idea of a shearling coat simply does not appeal to you or is just too much for you you. No need to fret, you can always acknowledge the trend via accessories, shearling-lined buckled boots, shearling tote, shearling scarf, everything goes!
In my shearling extravaganza, I went for this gorgeous Karl Donoghue Belted shearling-trimmed leather coat I picked up from theOutnet.

Karl Donoghue is one of many talented British designers who started his label in 1995, creating super soft and tactile ready-to-wear and accessories from the finest shearling and leather. Inspired by natural skins and their unique qualities, his cozy-chic collection of shearling leather and sumptuous fur has me fallen head over heels for his designs.

This shearling coat has been handcrafted in England. The soft beige and gray hues make it go with everything from denim to tailored trousers. I love the sumptous shearling collar, buckled waist belt and asymmetric zip through front. The sheared shearling interior makes it even more desirable!

Mary Katrantzou – best known for her breakthrough prints – is one of my favorite Birish designers. This Athens-born Wunderkind, launched her eponymous label in 2008, showcasing a perfect balance of flawless tailoring, structured shapes, intelligent use of digital patterns and daring kaleidoscopic prints.
Her creations are truly works of art and this Black MVK Small Verde handbag is no exception.
Rendered in rich tri-tone leather, this small bag is perfect for holding all your essentials and a high-style choice for teaming up with printed separates. Made in neutral earthy tones of nougat, black and ivory leather, it features a square body, front flap close with two internal compartments and a detachable strap so can be used as a clutch. I love the structured design and ultra chic look that oozes sophistication! One of my favourite bags to date! I am slowly collecting her treasured designs in my wardrobe so brace yourself for more of her hyper-real prints and daring designs!

I slipped on this Modern Vintage Jameson suede ankle bootie in a beautiful taupe colour to add composure and class to my ensemble. The rubber platform is accompanied by a 4 1/2 inch heel height that gives your legs a flattering lift you are looking for.

The burst of orange

When it comes to fashion, I always get excited with bursts of bright colours. Perhaps, this is why I love this outfit; bold, funky and it makes me smile!

P1060753

This Carven bright orange Faux fur-trimmed wool blend coat combines elegant cuts with directional detailing, it is one of those off-the-wall jackets with a Parisian twist, either you love it or hate it!.
I like its loose fit, detachable collar, buttoned flap pockets and zipped back vent.

I matched orange with yellow going for this Jonathan Saunders Maryse knitted cotton sweater.

The fluorescent peach and yellow juxtaposed against black ribbed trims create an almost intoxicating pattern that you just can’t stop looking at. It is without a doubt, one of my favourite jumpers.

Create a vibrant, off-duty look and team it with leather pants and soaring heels.
Black leather pants always go extraordinarily well with bright tops so I went with these Marc Jacobs Mirah leather trousers with skinny-leg and a horizontal knee-seam.

The appeal of teal

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and are all looking forward to the wonders of 2015! It has been a while since my last post as I was enjoying my down-time off-line! I have somehow resisted featuring any glitzy and Christmassy ensembles, instead went for not-so-festive yet still funky winter leather outfit.

image

Working with different shades of ivory, charcoal and black, Rick Owens is the king of avant-garde dazzle. You can always count on adding the edge to your urban wardrobe with the Paris-based designer’s luxe leather jackets.

image

This Rick Owens Winged Salon shearling-lined leather jacket I picked up on theOutnet is one of a kind!
I love the rich pumpkin shade and the distressed leather look with shearling-lined collar. The oversized, cropped style and asymmetric snap fastening at front give the jacket uber cool look. The sleeves are fairly long so not to everyone’s liking but I adore this daring cut and fit.

Carven is yet another label on the list of my favourite brands working Parisian elegance and eclectic aesthetics. This asymmetric statement skirt is certainly having its moment and it is easy to see why with Carven‘s vivid teal version.

A geometric hem – longer at the back – and tactile wool bouclé sets it apart.

I am back with yet another of Alexander Wang‘s designs. I picked up these dark brown Anouck cutout-heel leather ankle boots on theOutnet.

I love the wedge cut-out leather heel with metal hardware plate that truly makes these boots unique.
The elasticated side panels and a pull tab at the rear create no-fuss slip on and off. They are very comfortable, too!
